At Durham Deaf Services, volunteers are valuable members of our team. As a non-profit organization, these are the people that are the heart of our community.

There are many different people that volunteer at DDS; we invite anyone who has the heart, the time and the commitment, to become a volunteer. Although there are some areas where we do need people who are fluent in American Sign Language, many of our volunteer opportunities require little or no signing skills.

For those who are looking to learn or increase their sign language skills, DDS is wonderful environment to interact with the community. Although we are not able to directly teach ASL while someone is volunteering, the interaction with people who are fluent in the language is a valuable experience. For those wanting to learn more about ASL, we encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful classes we offer, both at an introductory level here at our office, and also at classes we offer in partnership with Durham College. Click here for more information on our sign language classes.

For more information visit us during our office hours, or you can send an e-mail to our volunteer coordionator, Ewa Swiecicki.
